Q. Does my computer have to be on to make and receive calls?

YES. Your computer must be on and you must have an active Internet connection to be able to place and receive calls. Voicemail and Call Forwarding WILL work if your computer is off or your magivox is unplugged. If the computer is off OR if you do not have an active Internet connection OR if the magivox is unplugged from your computer...your magivox voicemail will receive the call. If you enabled the Call Forwarding feature, you can have your magivox number forward to an alternative mobile, home or business number.

NOTE: You may not forward to an International telephone number without prepaid minutes in your account. For example: If you wish to transfer call to local India mobile to landline, please add international minutes in your phone by logging on to my.magicjack.com


Q. How do I get a telephone number with magivox?

You will receive your complimentary telephone number immediately upon registration. If you have requested your dealer to pre-register than your device will be equipped with a 10 digit telephone number, you will be provided with that number in your email and in a separate letter sent to you.

This 10 digit phone number will also be visible to us on your soft screen. If your device was requested to be pre-registered than you can simply hook the device to your computer and a magivox soft screen will open which will display your number.

NOTE: You will not receive a number until you physically have your magivox in your possession and either you or your dealer has successfully registered your magivox.


Q. Can I move my magivox between different computers?

YES. magivox is a portable device and may be used on multiple computers. It may be used on any Windows XP, Windows Vista or Intel-based MACs. You will not have to register your magivox again.

Simply plug your magivox into the new computer and wait for the software to appear and you will be able to make and receive calls within moments.
Only one magivox may be used on a computer at a time.

magivox is ideal for traveling


Q. If my friends and family from US or Canada call me, are they charged for a long distance call?

Any charges applied to a person calling you are dependent on their individual calling plan and their current carrier. Typically, many people have an unlimited calling plan for both local and long distance calls.
We do not charge anyone for inbound telephone calls.


Q. How do I dial International Calls?

Calling to International locations works the same as with other traditional providers.

Calls to Canada & Caribbean:
Dial 1 + the area code + local number

Other Countries outside the United States and Canada:
Dial 011 + country code + city code + local number

NOTE: There are some countries like Dominican Republic, Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica where calls do not require a prefix of 011.


Q. Does magivox work with wireless Internet (WI-FI)?

YES. magivox does work with Wireless Internet (WiFi)

Q. Do I have to inform my Internet Service Provider (ISP) that I am using magivox?

No, you do not have to inform your Internet Service Provider (ISP) that you are using magivox.


Q. How can I use my answering machine with magivox?

You may use a third-party answering machine with magivox.

NOTE: magivox voicemail is set to 4 (four) rings by default. The ring count may not be changed at this time.

To use your own answering machine with your magivox:
Change the settings on your answering machine to pick up after 3 rings... before the magivox voicemail picks up.
Please refer to your answering machine's user manual for additional details.


Q. I have friends and family living in Dubai, China or any other country in the world besides US and Canada. Can I call them?

YES. There are two ways to call them:

A) Buy international minutes on your device and call them at our low calling rate
B) Buy another magivox and gift them and you can talk for free between magivox and magivox, no matter where you are in the world. magivox can be activated anywhere in the world and allows free calls between one magivox to another.


Q. What if I lose my password and/or email address?

We will immediately assist you with retrieving or resetting your password. Please click here and click the "Remind me By Email" button. You must have your e-mail address OR phone number to proceed. An email with your password will be sent to your registered email address.


Q. Can I review or access my call records or call logs?

You may check the recent calls log on the right-hand side of your magivox softphone.


Q. Can I use several phones with my magivox?

YES. You can plug a cordless base station into the magivox and use several cordless handsets throughout your house. You can also use a phone splitter with the magivox and plug multiple corded phones into the magivox.

NOTE: You might have to use a powered USB hub if several phones are used to generate more power from the USB port.


Q. Does the person I am calling also need to own a magivox?

NO. You can call the person on any landline and mobile of US, Canada and Puerto Rico just like any other traditional phone. The person calling you OR the person you are calling does NOT need a magivox. The person calling you may use a traditional telephone or cell phone.


Q. What is the difference between magivox and traditional VoIP carriers?

magivox is a superior telecommunications solution. magivox is an easy-to-use, portable device that allows you to use a standard telephone, corded or cordless, or even a headset/mic combination. No special equipment is required. magivox customers pay one low upfront cost for the device and their first year of service is included at no additional charge. For one low annual price, magivox customers receive local and long distance calling to the United States and Canada. magivox customers will never see a monthly phone bill. magivox has an actual dedicated telephone network along with interexchange agreements with our peer telecommunications providers. Other VoIP providers may lease their entire network from third-party carriers and this may result in higher costs and less reliable networks and call quality.


Q. Can I use several magivoxs on the same computer?

YES. You can use as many magivoxs as you would like on the same computer, BUT only one magivox at a time can be used on a computer.


Q. How do I purchase International prepaid minutes?

To purchase minutes for International calling: Click the bottom left corner of your magivox SoftPhone on your computer where it reads "Click Here To Order" or "my.magicJack" OR Click here


Q. Can I change the email address of the voice mail?

YES! To do so you need to click the bottom left corner of your magivox softphone, where it reads "Click Here To Order or my.magicJack". OR Click here and log into your account, using the email address and password that you used when you registered your magivox.

Once logged in, add a new email account and the voicemail button will appear. You will then be able to press the voicemail button to select the email account you would like to use for voicemail notifications.


Q. What bandwidth speed is required to use magivox?

A minimum bandwidth UPLOAD speed of 128 kb/s is required. You may test your bandwidth speed at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

magivox is ideal for travel. magivox is a portable device and fits conveniently in your pocket, purse or briefcase. With access to a computer and high speed Internet service, you will experience the same great savings around the world.
